Rhodes Home and Gift to host Chef Raiford cooking demo and signing

On Friday, June 11, Rhodes Home and Gift will host a cooking demo and book signing by Matthew Raiford, Southeastern Gullah Geechee culinary legend and James Beard semifinalist.
The demonstration and signing will run 11:30-2:30 and feature Raiford's Blood and Sand signature cocktail and Chef Matthew’s Watermelon Steak Salad, which is available in his cookbook, Bress ’n’ Nyam: Gullah Geechee Recipes from a Sixth-Generation Farmer, released in May 2021. Attendees will be able to purchase signed copies of the cookbook.

Bress ’n’ Nyam is not only a cookbook but a culinary journey with tales of growing up with family recipes like Gullah Fish Stew. The “chefarmer” of Gilliard Farms, a family-run organic farm in Georgia, is the sixth generation to farm this land, along with his sister, Althea. They grow the food that inspires recipes featured in Bress ’n’ Nyam such as Two-Day Fried Chicken and Smoked Ossabaw Island Hog.
