On Wednesday, December 6, President Donald Trump changed the rules that have governed diplomatic relations in the Middle East. On that day, he (drum roll) stated the obvious: President Donald John Trump acknowledged on behalf of most of the United States government (State Department apparently excluded) that Jerusalem actually is the capital of the state of Israel, as the state of Israel has insisted since its modern inception in 1948. Why is this such a big deal? Every one of the other 192 members of the United Nations has had no difficulty in having the capitals that they have designated recognized as such. Why has Jerusalem alone been set aside as the capital of a sovereign nation as that nation has insisted?

Simple answer: Jew hatred! This statement is not part of the “victim” scam about which I wrote last month. I am well aware that “Jew hatred” is cited in all sorts of situations as the cause of something or other. I am not begging anyone for anything, nor am I asking anyone to feel sorry for us. But why else would the nations of the world refuse to recognize that the seat of Israel’s parliament (the Knesset), the seat of its prime minister and the seat of its Supreme Court is actually Israel’s capital? The argument goes that since Jerusalem is the “subject of territorial dispute” and since it will form the basis of “future negotiations for a two-state solution,” it should not be ceded to Israel. This is pure garbage and it is a rationalization, not a reason.

Not since the Jebusites were defeated by King David in the ninth century B.C.E. has ANY group of people other than the Jews claimed Jerusalem as its capital. Yes, I know that the so-called “Palestinians” claim eastern Jerusalem as their capital, but who are they? They are nothing more than a bunch of ethnic Arabs, who were subjects of the Ottoman Empire with no ethnic or cultural differences from all the other Arab subjects of the Ottoman Empire. Most of that particular group fetched up in what is now Israel in the early 20th centuries (because the Zionists had cleared the land, drained the swamps and established industry and therefore had jobs to offer them). They were suddenly and magically identified as “Palestinians” by Yasser Arafat, a murderous, corrupt propaganda genius who decided that if he called this amorphous group of Arabs “Palestinians,” he would be in a position to play victim and villanize the Jews who have been hated for thousands of years by large segments of Western civilization. He succeeded.

Jerusalem has — until very recently — never been venerated as holy by Muslims (it is not mentioned once in the Koran, while it is named in the Torah well more than 600 times). Large parts of Jerusalem were lost to the state of Israel following the war for independence in 1948. They were occupied by the Jordanians, who desecrated many of the places that were sacred to Christians and Jews and who never once treated Jerusalem as a place that was particularly special. In 1967, Israel recaptured and reunified Jerusalem and it was only then that the Arab world discovered the holiness of the city. It was only after the Jews had it, that the Arabs wanted it. Like a two-year old who sees its brother’s toy, they want Jerusalem ONLY because the Jews have it. And for what do they want it? As a capital of a non-existent state with no reason for existence other than that to fill the spaces occupied by Jews whom the want to throw into the sea.

But the Jews refuse to perish in the sea. To those who argue that Israel should back off for the benefit of all, I am reminded of a favorite aphorism that is making the rounds: “You are not required to set yourself on fire to keep others warm.” The Jews refuse to leave their ancient homeland and they refuse to cede the capital city for which they have yearned without pause since their exile 2,000 years ago and in which there have been Jews living uninterrupted for 2,000 years. Instead, the Jews protect the holy places of all religions and provide open access to all (except the Temple Mount which, ironically is open only for Muslims to pray).

The hucksters have invented the big lie that Jews have no historic connection to Jerusalem! Has there ever been a bigger provable falsehood? As Exhibit 1, I point to Psalm 137: “If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.”

Jews have recited Psalm 137 since, at least, the exile to Babylon in 586 B.C.E. But along comes a murdering terrorist who denies this undeniable fact and it suddenly forms a “truth” that is accepted by the Jew-hating world … until President Trump swept it away. With his simple recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the president stripped away the sham and the falsehood that had been the basis of American foreign policy in the Middle East. Along with the refusal to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital had come the reluctance to recognize Israel as a full-fledged member of the family of nations.

The State Department has carried that filthy flag since 1948 when President Harry Truman recognized the state of Israel over their objections. Each time a president seemed to be moving in Israel’s direction, the striped-pants beauties at State would raise objections, painting all sorts of terrible pictures that would result if Israel were treated like every other nation on the face of the Earth. It has been a constant annoyance to the State Department that Israel would not fold its tents and sneak away into the night. It has been a constant annoyance that Israel has flourished in the face of the obstacles that the Jew haters have persistently placed in her path. The symbol of this constant annoyance has been Israel’s insistence that Jerusalem is its eternal and undivided capitol. That constant annoyance is the underlying source of the position that Jerusalem is a bargaining chip in the “peace process” and should not be recognized as the seat of Israel’s government.

With his speech on December 6, President Trump has thrown all that crap into a cocked hat. Did he go as far as I would have preferred? No. He could have stated that Jerusalem is the “eternal and undivided” capital of Israel. In failing to do so, he left Jerusalem open as the subject of future negotiations in the effort to achieve the chimera of a “two state solution.” Nonetheless, what President Trump did in his simple recognition of reality is to pull the ground out from under those who use Jerusalem as a symbol of the illegitimacy of the Jewish state. The Jew haters can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. By growing ever stronger and by contributing so much to the benefit of mankind (medical advances, emergency aid, etc.), Israel shoves its existence in the faces of those who would destroy it. Jerusalem is the crown of the Jews. It is the jewel in the crown of the Jewish state. It will NEVER be surrendered by the Jewish people.

As for those Jews who feel contempt for President Trump, they are actually contemptuous of themselves. They condemn President Trump on the road to their own oblivion. These self-hating Jews will soon lose their often-tenuous connection to the Jewish nation and melt into the magma of history.

This is one Jew who will forever feel gratitude and admiration for President Trump, just as I do for President Harry Truman. These two presidents share a refusal to substitute form for substance and a refusal to substitute sham for truth. They share a refusal to empower those who hate the Jewish nation and they share a vision of Jerusalem as the eternal and undivided seat of freedom and liberty in the Middle East.

Thank you, Mr. President, for facing down the liars and the haters.

Now, just clean out the State Department and I will be happy.
